Song Background
The scriptural background for this song is rooted in Joshua 24:10 and Proverbs 4:14-15…
Joshua 24:15
"(15) And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Proverbs 4:14-15
"(14) Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. (15) Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on."
This song is so filled with emotion I can barely sing it without falling into tears. My heart breaks when I think about where our son has gone. He has fallen into a deep dark place where we cannot follow. It is a pit of despair, filled with loneliness, pain, and sorrow. Only a cold wind blows there, but it is so much more than just a cold breeze. It's a deep, endless, frozen, and dark wind. A dark wind that penetrates the soul. For our family, we clearly saw the line scripture draws on this topic. As much as it breaks our heart, we cannot follow him where he has chosen to go.
It is a place of death and pain… it's where the dark wind blows.
Where The Dark Wind Blows - Lyrics
Some will say, that time can heal all the pain
But deep wounds Oh Lord, they never really fade away
Like when we lost our son to the world...
All our faith became reality
When we heard You say we must choose whom our family will serve
I remember when he walked away, his promise was broken in two
and he was alone without You...
Where the dark wind blows
O-h, o-h, he lost his soul, where the dark wind blows
O-h, o-h, Lord we can't go, where the dark winds blow
O-h, o-h, we can't follow, where those dark winds blow…
Maybe he'll find a way, to break through the pain and find his way home
Until then we will pray, God, You will keep him safe from the storm...
The path he chose, we had no way to follow
The world took him down a one-way road, all alone
And those dark winds they began to blow...
It's so hard when there's no grave to grieve
He's gone, and there's no headstone to put flowers on
Will he ever see reality?
Or will he stay locked in the cold, with no way back home...
Where the dark wind blows
O-h, o-h, he lost his soul, where the dark wind blows
O-h, o-h, Lord we can't go, where the dark winds blow
O-h, o-h, we can't follow where those dark winds blow...
